Zamo Blogg

Here’s Zamo outside of the Open Door in Masiphumelele. Open Door is the only NGO in Masi that have been given statutory rights in terms of working with children and families. They have two social workers (!) that are taking on the massive responsibility of intervening with child abuse, abandonment and neglect cases. We currently have several cases where the children are being abused or neglected and are in need of protection. In these cases we need Open Door to intervene and take the matter to court. Needless to say, we go here a lot, to advocate on behalf of the child.

This visit concerned a child that had been moved to a foster family (because of several referrals from the Baby Safe) and has recently been placed back with the parent by the court, without evidence of the home circumstances improving…It’s a challenge to maintain a good working relationship with the authorities and be a fierce advocate for children’s rights and protection at the same time.
