So, you might have heard that we’re moving to South Africa?

Why would you do that?
Ever since we first got together, we’ve been trying to find ways that we can be part of making a difference in the lives of people in the world who are marginalised, hopeless and destitute. We’re at a time in our lives where we are free to give of our time and energy to something that we’re really excited about. So that’s what we’re doing…

What will you get up to?
Our plan is to work with The Babysafe and All Nations in supporting at-risk families and children.
In 2010 there were 500 babies abandoned in the Western Cape region of South Africa (where we will be based) by hopeless mothers. Baby bodies are found in bins and storm drains by city workers. The Babysafe was established to tackle this problem: to provide an alternative to baby dumping, and to support mothers and families so that it is no longer an option.
Along side this we will be: helping to start small businesses, gathering and resourcing simple communities of faith, and teaching life skills.
At present there is a great need for Social Workers (like Sofia), and other people who can help in a variety of ways: working with kids, teaching lifeskills, helping to coach entrepreneurs as they set up micro-businesses.
How will you support yourselves?
Our work with The Babysafe is done on a voluntary basis. We won’t be paid to do it.
There are two main ways that we will pay our bills:
- We’re asking our friends (and anyone else who wants to back what we’re doing) to consider supporting us financially.
- Jonathan will continue designing websites on a part-time, freelance basis, which should cover part of our living expenses.
How can I get involved?
There are many ways you can be involved: we’re looking for people who will partner with us in prayer, friendship (sending us emails), and people who would like to support us financially.
Here are three great ways to be involved, starting right now:
